A quiet and small place with a timid staff, The Vietnamese Noodle House is a tiny gem in the plaza at the corner of Route 11 and Bear Road in North Syracuse. A friend of mine told me it was a great “starter” Vietnamese restaurant, meaning they offer a basic selection of authentic Vietnamese dishes. Authentic it was for sure!
Overall, this restaurant gets my vote for “Biggest Bang for Buck.” Every plate that came out of that kitchen was HEAPING with a ton of food. The most expensive meal on the menu is only $9.95. My BBQ Pork Banh Mi Sandwich was HUGE and only $5. For that price, whenever I am thinking of a fast food stop for lunch I will always consider a Banh Mi to go!
The BBQ Pork Banh Mi was Amazing! The bread was like a French style baguette. It was very light, crackly crust and not overly dense. The bread was warm and layered with BBQ Pork that melted in your mouth. Atop the pork were shredded pickled carrots & daikon, fresh cilantro and crispy cucumber slices. It said it had a homemade mayo but I have to say I didn’t taste it. The flavors of the pork, cilantro and veggies stood out. Like a musical band with rock star status, this sandwich may soon have a cult-like following. I, for one, am in line. I also ordered the Summer Rolls appetizer. These were light and filled with shrimp, rice vermicelli, vegetables and fresh herbs and then rolled in rice paper. The rice paper was soft not sticky or hard. It came with a peanut hoisin sauce for dipping. It was very good. My family each ordered the Stir-Fried Noodles. They choose egg noodles over chow fun. They ordered Shrimp Stir-Fried Noodles, Chicken Stir-Fried Noodle and Beef Stir-Fried Noodles. When their plates came out my mouth dropped open. The amount of food on these plates, wow! Huge! I was lucky enough to try everyone’s. The noodles were thin like angel hair pasta. The sauce was very good and coated every noodle and all the veggies. Both chicken and beef melted in your mouth. No dry meat here. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and you really received a great amount. We had so much food. Needless to say, we needed boxes to go.
If I had any complaint, it would be the randomness of the way our food was delivered to the table. My Banh Mi sandwich arrived first. About 5 minutes later the waitress delivered my Summer Roll appetizer. So much time had elapsed before the rest of the table received their hot entrées that I was more than half done with my sandwich. But the food was so darn good and satisfying, I will absolutely be returning. Hands down – The Vietnamese Noodle House is a GREAT little gem in North Syracuse!
