Craft Brewers Barnyard Bandstand – a new, beautiful, and tiny outdoor venue show series tucked into the country town of Honeoye Falls, NY! On the night of June 16th the boys from Dirty Blanket embarked to set the bar high for this new venue and boy did they ever! Two sets of wholesome bluegrass, paired with the majestic sun setting into the sky for hours on end as the boys ignited the stage into an inferno pit! Playing songs we all know and love from their first album, especially a stellar “Freight Train #9”!!! They closed the first set with a classic cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Jack Straw” that would bring even the oldest dead head to tears.
Going into the second set, the sun had set into the hills. We were left with a crystal clear sky with the moon and Venus directly behind the stage! Dirty Blanket’s second set was freckled with covers of great bluegrass classics, an insane take on Pink Floyd’s “Time” and a personal favorite original by them called “Don’t Blow” to end the second set of magic! An amazing Dirty Blanket show to kick off the Craft Brewers Barnyard Bandstand Series, but we haven’t even talked about the second best part of the whole event….. the random pop up food tent selling three things. Hot dogs , bratwurst and pretzels! Now, these are not your regular pretzels to start. They are giant pretzels, made on site, the size of a wheelbarrow tire, and it comes paired with the most delicious, locally made, spicy brown mustard. At 9 bucks for one, I was not disappointed with my purchase, to say the least. Now onto the brats, oh my! Cooked in one of their amazing brewed beers, then grilled to perfection, topped with grilled peppers and onions, plus sour kraut! Then, I personally covered mine in that same local mustard. Just the thing to fill my fat belly up. Oh yeah, by the way, did I mention they are only five bucks! Personally, I am not a drinker but the friends I was with enjoyed all the beers the brewery brewed. Me? I enjoyed one of their root beers, also brewed on site. All in all, what a great first experience at the Craft Brewers Barnyard Bandstand Series. I can’t wait to return for more brats, pretzels, and great sights! And to my brothers from Dirty Blanket – good luck on your big tour ahead. I’ll be catching you all again real soon.
