In CNY, festy season is traditionally over around Labor Day with the Last Daze of Summer and Night Lights festivals. Both were great festivals this year, but let’s pull the curtain back once or twice more before we call it a season, shall we? This weekend hosts a pair of good festivals. Next weekend hosts a tasty welcome to Fall.
This weekend in Western NY – a festival that is put on by the production company of Upstate Music and Food’s very own Pumpkin, Pumpkin Patch Presents, Flannel Fest 2018. September 21-23, 2018 in Springwater, NY. 3 days featuring a special performance by Pink Floyd tribute band, Gilmour’s Breakfast, as well as area greats Barroom Philosophers, Folkfaces, Big Sexy and the Scrambled Eggs, Red Beard Samurai, Johnny Richards, and many more. A band I am looking forward to catching is the Infrared Radiation Orchestra. They use a theremin like I have never seen live. Usually, a theremin is used merely to provide a weird screech to accent an arrangement. IRO uses the theremin for melody . . . and it’s amazing! Now’s the time to bust out that flannel onesie if you’ve got one!
Flannelfest – starts 9/21 at 6 pm – $30 presale / $40 at the gate
This weekend in Eastern NY – The Equinox Music Festival on September 22, 2018 in Canastota, NY. A single day that is jam packed with some of CNY’s top musicians. The red, yellow, and green will run thick, Saturday. Headlined by area heavyweights, Root Shock, Equinox Fest also advertises a reunion of the recently defunct and very much so missed, Boogie Low. Tommy Dennis will showcase his new effort, Psyproject. Add the Organic Soul Band, Old Deer Ensemble and Astro Collective, plus a couple more to the mix, and you have one of the best single days of music that one could ask for!
Equinox Music Festival – starts 9/22 at noon – $15 presale / $20 at the gate
Next weekend, CNY greets the change of seasons with open arms at the Fall Down at the “G” Lodge, in Hannibal, NY. A 3 day fest that runs September 28-30, 2018. The Fall Down has a thick lineup, featuring some of the best bluegrass and then some! Throughout the weekend, you will see big bluegrass names like Driftwood, Dirty Blanket, and the Milkwood Trio. On the flip side of that, there are super groovers on the bill like Haiwa and the killer blues of Damdog. There also a couple super group side projects. One being The Neighbors. The other is a main attraction of Fall Down – Michelangelo Carubba and the MC3, featuring members of Turkuaz and Kung Fu. Here’s the deal – there is a HUGE funk scene in music these days, being led by bands like Turkuaz and Kung Fu. The MC3 includes Mikey Carubba, the thunderfoot drummer from Turkuaz, as well as Kung Fu’s keyboard wizard, Beau Sasser. I think it’s safe to say that they are gonna Funk your face off at the Fall Down! It’s the last hoorah of the season, so get your booty to the “G” Lodge, 9/28-30!
Fall Down at the G Lodge – starts 9/28 – $50 presale
