Sterling Stage will close out their 24th year this weekend with the annual Last Daze of Summer, August 30-September 2. Last Daze is always an epic rager, the last time some of these friends will be together until next May at Folkfest.
This past weekend had all eyes on Lockn.’ It is a premier summer festival with a who’s who of jam band royalty. The line up includes well known annual favorites that are there every year, a handful of new hopefuls that have proven themselves to be worthy and are given the opportunity to shine in front of a crowd of new eyes, all culminating in a legendary headliner that has been a key component and primary influence on the scene and ultimately, your upbringing. Lockn’ was the place to be a week ago!
Then, I got to comparing apples to oranges. Fast forward 1 week. Let’s think about this, shall we? Sterling Stage presents Last Daze of Summer this weekend. It has all the elements, does it not? Classic regulars you couldn’t stand to be without, such as Chris James and Mama G, Barroom Philosophers, The English Project, Johnny Richards, Paul Leclair, Randy and the Haze… New blood that has been grinding the scene and carving a name for themselves, such as the Organic Soul Band, that will make their Sterling debut on Saturday afternoon. Big Sexy and the Scrambled Eggs will be making their return, after setting the Sinatra Lounge on FIRE at Ameribeat! Creamery Station are another great band that will be making a return, after a fiery debut of their own! Last Daze will feature late night performances from essential favorites, like The Blind Owl Band, Dirty Blanket, and Old Deer Ensemble. Lets not forget the legends. Ryan Montbleau will return Friday night, for his 15th, or so, consecutive year at Sterling. That is remarkable. Who is more legend than that? Um, those pals called MAX CREEK, that have been kicking rocks around the jam band scene for decades. They are, by far, the most revered Sterling Stage alumni, having played in the pines more years than any national act, dating back to the very first parties over 20 years ago!
That being said, when I compare apples to oranges, I realize it’s really apples to apples. All the elements are present. Think about it, Sterling Stage’s Last Daze of Summer is essentially a CNY Lockn’ and certainly one that shouldn’t be missed. You can get tickets at the gate, or you can save a few bucks and get your tickets at the “Tickets” link on this event page. Either way, get your tickets and don’t miss it! Be thankful for what you have in your backyard.
