One week until that favorite time of year again. Sterling Stage Kampitheater opens the gates for their 24th season, and welcome you to Folkfest, May 24-27. Twenty four years, and the lineups they have in store for 2018 show no signs of slowing down or compromising their ideals. Folkfest is packed thick with top national, regional, and local acts. Headlining Saturday night are psychedelic legends The Breakfast, which feature some members from funk titans Kung Fu. A band of which headlined the same stage last year. If that wasn’t enough, Breakfast / Kung Fu guitar guru Tim Palmieri will be playing a very special late night Beatles set in the Sinatra Lounge. Remember back in 2014 I think it was, when Primate Fiasco played and then Tim melted your face off with a late night Beatles set that was so good that it took a solid place in the “Holy Shitballs – awesome things I will NEVER experience again” wing of your memory bank? Saturday night at Folkfest, Sterling Stage grant you a do over. After The Breakfast deliver 2 full headlining sets, Tim will slip back into the pines and offer an acoustic Beatles set that will run into the wee hours of Sunday funday. Plan your game well. You don’t want to pass on this opportunity.
But the whole weekend is glittered with gems and not just focussed around Saturday night! Favorites like the Honey Smugglers, Johnny Richards, Folkfaces, and Old Deer Ensemble. Both The English Project and Barroom Philosophers will play some key sets. Bands like Mosswalk and A Girl Named Genny will be making their Sterling Stage debuts. And what would Folkfest be without a late night rager from our favorites, Chris James and Mama G? This will be a performance not to miss. This a band that is constantly honing their sound and presenting something new. I cannot wait to see what they offer Friday night.
Closing out Folkfest is the return of Hayley Jane and the Primates. They made a killer debut last year that was plagued by rain, which kind of hindered the energy that the crowd could feed into the whole. Sunday night should be nothing short of greatness!
Gates open in one short week. Don’t miss it. The vibe of Folkfest is warm and infectious. Come greet the friends you haven’t seen since last year. Realign your focus and intentions. Celebrate new starts and fresh beginnings. A Folkfest weekend will restore that showroom shine to your Karma. Don’t miss it! Gates open Thursday at noon.
