Clearly, I am speaking of Turkuaz when I say the Kings and Queens of Funk return to CNY next week! The innovators of powerfunk return to our area with a performance at Buffalo Iron Works, Tuesday, November 7 and another November 8th at Syracuse’s Westcott Theater. Their special guest for both shows will be The Suffers.
What have they been up to since their last visit to the area? Well, they’ve toured coast to coast to coast to coast, they’ve played Red Rocks, had a standout performance at this summer’s Lockn’ festival, and the Turkuaz horns were one of the most talked about high points of the Peach Fest as they sat in with multiple bands as “artists at large” for the weekend. What else? This 9 piece funk army will be rolling into CNY with some new music to share and the new stuff sounds so very good. They’ve been working on a new album right here in Syracuse, due out soon. Here is the brand new video they just released for their single “On the Run”, a song that was produced by Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads.
There is a full on funk revolution going on right now and Turkuaz is at the forefront. Simply put, they are the Sly and the Family Stone of today, the Parliament Funkadelic of the future. Every show is potential musical history in the making. Can you stand to miss out on this when it’s dropped right in your lap? Then get down to Iron Works and/or The Westcott Theater.
